Influence of γ′ precipitate on deformation and fracture during creep in PM nickel-based superalloy

Zichao Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, FGH96 alloy with four different gamma' precipitate microstructures were produced via solution heat-treatment with different cooling rates. The relationship between the creep properties and the distribution of gamma' precipitate was established, and creep mechanism and dislocation movement were analyzed. The fracture mechanism was also investigated, showing that creep cracks generated on the surface due to oxidation, and the crack propagation depended on the average diameters of gamma' precipitate. The decrease in gamma' precipitate size led to an increase in critical shearing stress and resistance of dislocation slipping.
