Synthesis and characterization ofUV-curable nanocellulose/ZnO/AlNacrylic flexible films: Thermal, dynamic mechanical and piezoelectric response

Maria Assunta Signore et al.

Summary: This study focused on the fabrication of nanocomposites based on zinc oxide nanostructures and nanocellulose dispersed in a UV-cured acrylic matrix, aiming for functional coatings for self-powered applications. The piezoelectric behavior of the nanocomposites was significantly influenced by the nitride layer and proof mass insertion, leading to improved piezoelectric response.

Biochar industry to circular economy

Qiang Hu et al.

Summary: Biochar, a by-product of waste biomass pyrolysis/gasification, has potential to reduce environmental impact, address climate change, and establish a circular economy. However, research on its benefits remains debated due to heterogeneity. To enable meaningful comparisons, an agreed international standard for production is necessary. This study analyzed four key uses of biochar and proposed guidelines for its properties in an environmentally friendly application context in Singapore.

UV-LED as a New Emerging Tool for Curable Polyurethane Acrylate Hydrophobic Coating

Siti Khairunisah Ghazali et al.

Summary: This study utilized UV-LED technology to design a series of hydrophobic coatings based on urethane acrylate oligomer and fluorinated monomer, achieving high C=C conversion and gel fraction, reducing surface free energy, and enhancing hydrophobicity through migration of fluorine component. However, excessive fluorinated monomer content can lead to decreased transparency of the coating.

High-Temperature Annealed Biochar as a Conductive Filler for the Production of Piezoresistive Materials for Energy Conversion Application

Mauro Giorcelli et al.

Summary: This research developed a prototype that converts mechanical strain into an electrical signal by evaluating the electrical properties of a thermally annealed biochar-based silicon composite. The study focused on achieving an effective piezoresistive material with good electrical conductivity. A real device based on these composites was designed to demonstrate the potential exploitations of the composite piezoresistive properties.
