Maternal and infant prediction of the child BMI trajectories; studies across two generations of Northern Finland birth cohorts

Rozenn Nedelec et al.

Summary: By studying the BMI trajectories of 12,040 Finnish children, four different trajectory types were identified, and the effects of maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and smoking on BMI trajectories were discovered. These effects were consistent across generations, but the timing of adiposity peak in infancy had a discordant impact on BMI trajectories over a 20-year period.

A 3-year longitudinal study of the association of physical activity and sedentary behaviours with childhood obesity in China: The childhood obesity study in China mega-cities

Xiaomin Sun et al.

Summary: During 2015 to 2017, urban Chinese children had high rates of obesity and central obesity. Boys were more likely to be obese than girls, and there were gender differences in screen viewing time and walking time to school. Less walking time and more screen time were risk factors for obesity, with different associations observed between boys and girls.

Childhood factors related to diverging body mass index trajectories from childhood into mid-adulthood: A mixed methods study

Melanie J. Sharman et al.

Summary: This study examines childhood factors related to diverging BMI trajectories, finding that paternal education, main language spoken, alcohol consumption, and self-rated health significantly predict BMI trajectory. A distinct 'legacy effect' of parental lifestyle influences on BMI trajectories was observed, with stronger effects in some trajectory groups compared to others.
