Defining the Cell Wall, Cell Cycle and Chromatin Landmarks in the Responses of Brachypodium distachyon to Salinity

Elzbieta Wolny et al.

Summary: Salt stress affects germination and root growth in Brachypodium, influencing the expression of cell wall expansion-regulating proteins, induction of cell cycle genes, and alterations in genomic and epigenetic mechanisms such as histone acetylation and DNA methylation. These findings suggest a complex molecular response to salt stress in plants, indicating potential avenues for further functional genomics research.

Modulation of cell cycle progression and chromatin dynamic as tolerance mechanisms to salinity and drought stress in maize

Khaled Y. Kamal et al.

Summary: Salinity and drought stress affect maize seedling growth at the cellular level, including cell cycle regulation and chromatin remodeling. Stress treatments induce cell cycle arrest in S-phase, depleting cyclins B1 and A1, leading to low cell proliferation rate. Abiotic stress alters chromatin remodeling and gene expression of cell cycle regulators, resulting in cell cycle arrest.

Global patterns and climatic controls of forest structural complexity

Martin Ehbrecht et al.

Summary: This study utilizes a stand structural complexity index based on terrestrial laser scanning to quantify the structural complexity of boreal, temperate, subtropical and tropical primary forests. The global variation of forest structural complexity is mainly explained by annual precipitation and precipitation seasonality. The research reveals distinct latitudinal patterns of forest structure, with hotspots of high structural complexity coinciding with hotspots of plant diversity.

MYB3R-mediated active repression of cell cycle and growth under salt stress in Arabidopsis thaliana

Toru Okumura et al.

Summary: Under moderate salt stress, plant growth suppression is mediated by MYB3R transcription factors, which regulate the transcription of G2/M-specific genes. Genome-wide gene expression analysis revealed a general downregulation of G2/M-specific genes in Arabidopsis under salt stress, which was significantly mitigated by the loss of MYB3R repressors, leading to improved growth performance. This growth recovery involves enhanced cell proliferation possibly through prolonging and accelerating cell proliferation, as suggested by enlarged root meristem and increased number of CYCB1;1-GUS positive cells.

The Role of Anaphase-Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) in Plant Reproduction

Marina de Lyra Soriano Saleme et al.

Summary: Most eukaryotic species propagate through sexual reproduction involving male and female gametes. In flowering plants, this process begins with DNA replication and chromosome segregation, followed by mitotic divisions to form male and female gametophytes. Precise regulation of gametogenesis progression is essential for successful meiotic cell division and sexual differentiation in plant species.

SOG1 transcription factor promotes the onset of endoreduplication under salinity stress in Arabidopsis

Kalyan Mahapatra et al.

Summary: In plants, the DNA damage response mechanisms play a crucial role in maintaining genome stability by regulating cell cycle progression, repairing DNA damage, and inducing programmed cell death or endoreduplication. ATM and ATR serve as sensor kinases in this process, while the plant-specific transcription factor SOG1 transduces signals from ATM and ATR to regulate key genes involved in cell cycle progression and DNA damage repair under conditions such as high salinity stress. Arabidopsis exposed to high salinity show increased oxidative stress-induced DNA double strand breaks, leading to the induction of endoreduplication, with SOG1 playing a central role in this process.
