Biomarkers and predicting acute kidney injury

Friedrich C. Luft

Summary: This article discusses the conversion of biomarkers into reliable laboratory tests, examining both early and recently propagated biomarkers. It also proposes the need for faster and better tests that can reflect decreased renal function and predict increased AKI risk.

Essential Oil of Croton zehntneri Prevents Conduction Alterations Produced by Diabetes Mellitus on Vagus Nerve

Kerly Shamyra Silva-Alves et al.

Summary: The essential oil of Croton zehntneri (EOCz) was found to be effective in preventing diabetes-induced alterations in the rat vagus nerve, specifically improving conduction velocities and rheobase of myelinated fibers. Unmyelinated fibers were not affected by EOCz treatment, indicating its potential as a therapeutic agent for autonomic diabetic neuropathy (ADN).
