Summary: Nitrogen deposition, warming, and water stress have different effects on plant functional group cover in subalpine grassland, with distinct differences between warmer and cooler sites. Beyond the current critical nitrogen load limits, increased grass cover is expected in a warmer climate, while forb and legume cover decrease with temperature increases exceeding 2 degrees Celsius, due to both water deficit and temperature effects.
