A techno-sustainable bio-waste management strategy for closing chickpea yield gap

Saim Ozdemir et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the use of recycled poultry abattoir sludge in chickpea cultivation on low fertility soil can significantly increase yield, providing a feasible solution for closing the yield gap in crop production. Results indicate that image analysis can be a useful tool for evaluating chlorophyll content, nitrogen fixation efficiency, and predicting biomass and yield of chickpea.

Increasing plant phosphorus availability in thermally treated sewage sludge by post-process oxidation and particle size management

Dorette Muller-Stover et al.

Summary: Thermal conversion of phosphorus-rich waste materials offers advantages such as bioenergy generation and concentration of plant nutrients. The study found that particle size management and post-process oxidation can affect the plant availability of phosphorus in the final products. Different thermal processes modify the chemical and physical structure of the feedstock in varying ways, impacting phosphorus speciation and plant availability in the residual ashes or carbonization products.
