Identification of pH-dependent removal mechanisms of lead and arsenic by basic oxygen furnace slag: Relative contribution of precipitation and adsorption

Sang Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: The study found that lead was mainly removed by precipitation, while arsenic was mainly removed by adsorption, with the precipitation of amorphous calcium arsenate observed at higher pH values. The research also suggested the involvement of Ca2+ in the adsorption of arsenic, and that the precipitation mechanism appeared more stable than adsorption when tested.

Inorganic arsenic species removal from water using bone char: A detailed study on adsorption kinetic and isotherm models using error functions analysis

Susan S. A. Alkurdi et al.

Summary: The study showed that bone char is effective in removing inorganic arsenic from water, with the Sips model providing the best fit for As(III) experimental data and the Langmuir model suitable for As(V) data. At low concentrations, removal was due to intra-particle interactions and pore diffusion, while at higher concentrations, pore diffusion mechanism was ineffective.

Effect of pre-aeration on the removal of arsenic and iron from natural groundwater in household based ceramic filters

Md Shafiquzzaman

Summary: Pre-aeration of groundwater significantly improved the removal efficiency of As and Fe in the iron nested ceramic filter (CF), with As and Fe removal efficiency more than 82% and 99%, respectively in the AGW system. XAFS analysis indicated that the oxidation of Fe2+ and As(III) and subsequent adoption/precipitation are the main processes controlling the removals of As and Fe in the CFs.
