Landslide susceptibility mapping and rock slope stability assessment using frequency ratio and kinematic analysis in the mountains of Mgulat area, Northern Ethiopia

Gebremedhin Berhane et al.

Summary: The study generated a landslide susceptibility map (LSM) for Mgulat Mountain, identifying red sandstone and tillite lithologies, as well as slope steepness, as major conditioning factors for landslides. Five susceptibility classes were identified based on LSM results, providing important guidance for further land-use planning and mitigation of landslide risks. Detailed multidisciplinary investigations are recommended to consider cost-effective and technically sound mitigation measures.

Effect of using various weighting methods in a process of landslide susceptibility assessment

Kamila Hodasova et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of different weighting approaches in landslide susceptibility assessment. The bivariate statistical analysis used in the assessment requires careful weighting process, with weights calculated from the landslide index and frequency ratio showing the highest accuracy.ROC curves were used to verify the final susceptibility maps, with AUC values indicating the effectiveness of the different weighting methods.

A new method of assessing the stability of anti-dip bedding rock slopes subjected to earthquake

Yun Zheng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new method to evaluate the stability of ABRS under seismic actions, showing that ABRS is more likely to undergo shear and flexural toppling failures under the combined action of earthquakes and gravity. The direction of earthquake-induced inertial force, tensile strength of rock layers, and shear strength of joints significantly affect the stability of ABRS.

Landslide mechanism of waste rock dump on a soft gently dipping foundation: a case study in China

Haibin Wang et al.

Summary: In Miyi County of Sichuan Province, China, landslides caused by poorly compacted waste rock dumps on weak soil are predominant. The study examines the failure of waste dumps on soft foundations, highlighting the relationship between failure, pore water pressure increase, and liquefiable clay layers. Drainage is crucial in preventing waste dump failures on water-sensitive ground during heavy rainfall.
