The optimized formulation of ITZ exhibited enhanced solubility in both water and simulated vaginal fluid, while the in situ vaginal gel containing ITZ gel flakes demonstrated desirable physicochemical properties and effective antifungal activity against Candida albicans in infection animal models. These findings suggest great potential for enhancing the efficacy of ITZ in treating vaginal candidiasis, with further experiments needed before clinical trials.
