Local sea level trends, accelerations and uncertainties over 1993-2019

Pierre Prandi et al.

Summary: Satellite altimetry missions offer a quasi-global synoptic view of sea level variations over more than 25 years, providing regional sea level indicators such as trends and accelerations. This study estimates local sea level trend and acceleration uncertainties, deriving local error variance-covariance matrices and confidence intervals. The average local sea level trend uncertainty is found to be 0.83 mm/yr, with values ranging from 0.78 to 1.22 mm/yr, while for accelerations, uncertainties range from 0.057 to 0.12 mm/yr.

Absolute Baltic Sea Level Trends in the Satellite Altimetry Era: A Revisit

Marcello Passaro et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the absolute sea level trend in the Baltic Sea from May 1995 to May 2019 using satellite altimetry data and assesses the impact of the North Atlantic Oscillation and wind patterns on sea level trends and variability. The results show a statistically significant rise in sea level across the entire study region, with a higher increase in winter compared to summer, and differences in sea level rise gradient between different sub-basins. The study highlights the utility of enhanced satellite altimetry products for local sea level studies in regions with complex coastlines or sea-ice coverage.

Internal Variability Role on Estimating Sea Level Acceleration in Fremantle Tide Gauge Station

Armin Agha Karimi

Summary: Low frequency internal signals pose challenges in determining the impact of anthropogenic factors on sea level rise and achieving accuracy in trend and acceleration estimations. By analyzing climate indices, this study found that multidecadal sea level variability is negatively correlated with corresponding climate indices in the Pacific Ocean, while the correlations are lower on a decadal time scale.
