Metabolomics and correlation network analysis of follicular fluid reveals associations between L-tryptophan, L-tyrosine and polycystic ovary syndrome

Summary: This study investigated metabolic differences in follicular fluid samples from PCOS patients and healthy women, identifying significantly altered metabolites enriched in amino acid metabolism. Two hub metabolites, l-tryptophan and l-tyrosine, were found to have a significant impact on metabolic changes in PCOS and were positively associated with serum androgen levels in PCOS patients. The results suggest that amino acid metabolism, particularly tryptophan and tyrosine metabolism, may play an important role in the development of PCOS in predisposed women without obesity and IR.

Summary: Small dominant follicle diameter at induced ovulation impacts pregnancy rate, fertilization rate, and embryo quality in beef cows, possibly due to its effect on the transcriptome of the Cumulus-Oocyte complex, affecting oocytes competence and embryo development. Transcriptome analysis showed differential gene expression in oocytes and associated cumulus cells between small and spontaneous follicles, suggesting altered carbohydrate metabolism within the Cumulus-Oocyte complex contributes to decreased oocyte competency in small follicles.

Summary: Follicular atresia is a major factor limiting the reproductive power of domestic animals, with unclear molecular mechanisms at the metabolic level. This study found that porcine atretic follicles have lower levels of lipids such as phospholipids and higher levels of amino acids and bile acids compared to healthy follicles. Disorders in amino acid and cholic acid metabolism may contribute to porcine follicular atresia.
