Bioresorbable Scaffolds with Biocatalytic Chemotherapy and In Situ Microenvironment Modulation for Postoperative Tissue Repair

Chen-Cheng Xue et al.

Summary: New biomaterials with antitumor and tissue repair function are crucial for postoperative care of melanoma surgery to prolong tumor-free survival. A bioresorbable composite scaffold, fabricated by integrating therapeutic amorphous calcium carbonate-based nanoformulations into gelatin/polycaprolactone nanofibers via electrospinning, can deliver enhanced therapeutic effect and ameliorate tumor tissue acidity to inhibit tumor recurrence and metastasis. The acid-triggered ACC decomposition releases Ca2+ to activate Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathways, accelerating wound regeneration in cooperation with the healing effect of the GP substrate.

Antioxidant biocompatible composite collagen dressing for diabetic wound healing in rat model

Bei Qian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that a COL-based implantable scaffold containing a mixture of GO capable of sustained delivery of NAC showed beneficial effects on wound healing in diabetic rats by potentially inducing antioxidant defense system. The findings suggest that this antioxidant biocompatible composite collagen dressing may enrich approaches for surgeons in treating diabetic wounds in the future.
