Development of mass-transfer evaporation model for Lake Nasser, Egypt

Mohamed El-Sayed El-Mahdy et al.

Summary: A simple mass-transfer evaporation model was developed for Lake Nasser in the hyper-arid region, using measured meteorological data from Aswan and Abu-Simbel. Statistical analysis showed that the model can be confidently used at Aswan meteorological station or the average of the two stations, but should be used carefully at Abu-Simbel meteorological station.

Experimental method to predict scour characteristics downstream of stepped spillway equipped with V-Notch end sill

Mohamed El-Sayed El-Mahdy

Summary: This study aims to investigate the V-notch end sills in stepped spillways and assess their impact on energy dissipation and scour. The research showed that reducing the angle of V-notch end sills can enhance energy dissipation and decrease relative scour depth, length, and volume. Additionally, three scour equations were developed to predict scour characteristics from easily recordable measurements.

Forecasting lake evaporation under a changing climate with an integrated artificial neural network model: A case study Lake Nasser, Egypt

Mohamed El-Sayed El-Mahdy et al.

Summary: Understanding lake evaporation and the role of climate change in evaporation is crucial for water resources management. A study on Lake Nasser in southern Egypt developed a prediction model using artificial neural networks, indicating a potential 2% increase in evaporation by 2050. Trend analysis suggests that predicted climatological parameters may be slightly higher than historical records.

Evaluation of climate change impact on extreme temperature variability in the Blue Nile Basin, Ethiopia

Mostafa Abdel-Hameed Mohamed et al.

Summary: This study investigated the spatial and temporal patterns of extreme temperature changes in the Blue Nile Basin from 1950 to 2018. The results showed a significant increase in annual maximum and minimum temperatures during this period. Mann-Kendall analysis revealed a marked increase in mean maximum and minimum temperature trends, with the minimum temperature rate more evident. The long-term anomalies of mean annual minimum temperature indicated an increasing trend, providing evidence of a warming trend during the last two decades of the 20th century.
