Temperature is a key determinant of alpha- and beta-synuclein membrane interactions in neurons

Nagendran Ramalingam et al.

Summary: α-synuclein (α S) aggregation is associated with Parkinson's disease and related synucleinopathies. The study found that α S is mainly membrane-associated under different temperature conditions, with a higher membrane association compared to beta-synuclein (β S). Both proteins exhibit temperature-dependent membrane binding behavior.

A human stem cell-derived test system for agents modifying neuronal N-methyl-d-aspartate-type glutamate receptor Ca2+-signalling

Stefanie Klima et al.

Summary: A human pluripotent stem cell-based neural culture system capable of forming functional networks was developed, which contains various functional neurotransmitter receptors, especially the N-methyl-d-aspartate subtype of ionotropic glutamate receptors. This system responds to glutamate, kainate, and alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA), and can be modulated by Mg2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+, as well as various toxicologically relevant agonists and antagonists.
