Transfusion-relatedEpstein-Barrvirus (EBV) infection: A multicenter prospective cohort study among pediatric recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplants (TREASuREstudy)

Pascal R. Enok Bonong et al.

Summary: Although rare, transfusion-related EBV transmission can occur in severely immunosuppressed individuals. In this study, no statistically significant associations were found between transfusions and EBV infections in pediatric recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplants. It was observed that in one case the EBV strain of a recipient matched that of a blood donor, indicating a potential transmission of the virus through transfusion.
