Physicochemical characterization of green sodium oleate-based formulations. Part 1. Structure and rheology

Duccio Tatini et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural, thermal, and rheological properties of a moderately concentrated (13% w/w) dispersion of sodium oleate in water for the first time. The results showed significant deviations in the phase and rheology behavior of the surfactant at this concentration, with the addition of small amounts of KCl causing a transition from elongated wormlike micelles to a gel-like viscous material. These viscoelastic aqueous dispersions of NaOL are considered excellent candidates for stimuli-responsive green materials, with their behavior depending on the presence of cosolutes such as KCl.
