Nickle nanocrystals decorated on graphitic nanotubes with broad channels for fire hazard reduction of epoxy resin

Yongshuai Yuan et al.

Summary: Boron and nitrogen co-doped larger-diameter graphitic nanotubes with decorated nickel nanocrystals were developed as flame retardant for epoxy resin via pyrolysis method. The nanostructure allowed for enhanced interaction with the polymer matrix, improving the fire performance of the nanocomposites.

Transparent, highly thermostable and flame retardant polycarbonate enabled by rod-like phosphorous-containing metal complex aggregates

Ting Sai et al.

Summary: By utilizing a one-step solvothermal method, new rod-like phosphorus-containing metal complex aggregates (CePn) were successfully synthesized as a flame retardant for polycarbonate, reducing peak heat release rate and total smoke release while maintaining UL-94 V-0 rating and a 27.3% limiting oxygen index. The final PC composite retains high transparency of 90.1% and comparable tensile strength, while significantly enhancing thermal stability.

A molecularly engineered bioderived polyphosphate for enhanced flame retardant, UV-blocking and mechanical properties of poly(lactic acid)

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of a novel multifunctional bioderived polyphosphate (PPD) using plant-derived diphenolic acid for PLA, which enables PLA to achieve desirable flame retardancy and high UV protection. Adding 6wt% of PPD results in a 31% increase in impact toughness and a slight improvement in tensile strength for PLA.
