Environmental and socio-economic performance of different tillage systems in maize grain production: Application of Life Cycle Assessment and Multi-Criteria Decision Making

Summary: This study evaluated the sustainability of no tillage (NT), reduced tillage (RT), and conventional tillage (CT) in grain maize monoculture in Poland. Results showed that each tillage system had its own strengths in economic, environmental, and social aspects, with conventional tillage demonstrating the best overall performance. Sensitivity analysis revealed the significant impact of yield variability on the performance of tillage systems, suggesting that conservation tillage systems may play an important role in the face of climate change in the studied area.
