Endophytic Bacillus altitudinis WR10 alleviates Cu toxicity in wheat by augmenting reactive oxygen species scavenging and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis

Zonghao Yue et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that endophytic Bacillus altitudinis WR10 can enhance copper resistance in wheat seedlings and alleviate copper toxicity through enhancing peroxidases gene expression and activity, as well as down-regulating glutathione 5-transferases to increase glutathione levels. Furthermore, WR10 regulated the expression of genes involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis to improve plant cells' protection from copper toxicity. The findings suggest that WR10 alleviates copper toxicity in wheat by enhancing reactive oxygen species scavenging and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis.

Salt-tolerant plant growth-promoting Bacillus pumilus strain JPVS11 to enhance plant growth attributes of rice and improve soil health under salinity stress

Akhilesh Kumar et al.

Summary: Research isolated 36 salt-tolerant plant growth-promoting bacteria (ST-PGPB) from sodic soil in India, with 13 strains showing better growth properties in high salt concentrations. Inoculation with Bacillus pumilus strain JPVS11 improved rice growth performance, chlorophyll content, and soil enzyme activities, indicating its potential as a beneficial bacterium for mitigating salinity effects in rice.

Rhizospheric Phosphate Solubilizing Bacillus atrophaeus GQJK17 S8 Increases Quinoa Seedling, Withstands Heavy Metals, and Mitigates Salt Stress

Ismail Mahdi et al.

Summary: This study isolated phosphate-solubilizing bacteria from the rhizosphere of quinoa and found that some strains demonstrated tolerance to heavy metals and induced biofilm formation. Inoculation of quinoa seeds with certain bacterial strains showed improved germination rate and seedling growth, suggesting their potential use as inoculants for salty and heavy metal or zinc contaminated soils.

Rethinking Crop Nutrition in Times of Modern Microbiology: Innovative Biofertilizer Technologies

Summary: Global population growth threatens food security due to ecosystem degradation, climate change, soil erosion, and biodiversity loss. Biofertilizers, living microbes that enhance plant nutrition, have the potential to reduce dependency on agrochemicals. Despite their ability to improve soil fertility, biofertilizers have not yet widely replaced conventional chemical fertilizers in commercial agriculture. Translating knowledge on microbiome functions and addressing key factors limiting successful field applications are essential to capitalize on plant nutrition in agroecosystems.
