Effect of monoterpenes, phenylpropenes and sesquiterpenes on development, fecundity and fertility of Spodoptera littoralis (Boisduval)

Samir A. M. Abdelgaleil et al.

Summary: Monoterpenes, phenylpropenes, and sesquiterpenes exert profound effects on the development stages, pupation, adult emergence, reproduction, and fertility of Spodoptera littoralis, with trans-Cinnamaldehyde, 1,8-cineole, and others demonstrating potent bioactivity.

Glandular Trichome-Derived Mono- and Sesquiterpenes of Tomato Have Contrasting Roles in the Interaction with the Potato Aphid Macrosiphum euphorbiae

Fumin Wang et al.

Summary: Secondary metabolites produced in glandular trichomes of tomato, specifically mono- and sesquiterpenes, have contrasting roles in interactions with the potato aphid Macrosiphum euphorbiae. While sesquiterpenes derived from TPS12 contribute to host plant resistance against M. euphorbiae, monoterpenes derived from TPS20 appear to be exploited as cues for aphid orientation towards host plants.

Toxicity and repellent activity of monoterpene enantiomers to rice weevils (Sitophilus oryzae)

Hany A. Fouad et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the insecticidal activity of two enantiomeric forms of monoterpenes against Sitophilus oryzae adults. The results showed that (S)-(-)-linalool was the most toxic by contact, (S)-(-)-menthone was the most toxic through fumigation, and the enantiomeric forms of menthone and alpha-pinene were the best repellents. These findings highlight the importance of the form and percentage of enantiomers in commercial products for controlling S. oryzae.
