Wolf (Canis lupus) as canine adenovirus type 1 (CAdV-1) sentinel for the endangered cantabrian brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos)

Alvaro Oleaga et al.

Summary: The study found that canine adenovirus type 1 is circulating in free-ranging wolves in Asturias, which supports their possible role as virus reservoirs and sentinels in the region for this emerging disease in brown bears.

Circulation of diverse protoparvoviruses in wild carnivores, Italy

Linda A. Ndiana et al.

Summary: Protoparvovirus is a monophyletic viral genus that includes Carnivore protoparvovirus-1 species infecting domestic and wild carnivores. An epidemiological survey in Italy found a higher frequency of Carnivore protoparvovirus-1 detection in intestine samples from wild carnivores, suggesting its importance in sample collection for parvovirus detection. Different parvovirus types, with amino acid changes, were detected in various wild carnivores, highlighting the need for continuous surveillance to understand their role in the evolution and epidemiology of carnivore parvoviruses.

Natural distemper infection in stone martens (Martes foina): From infection to neutralizing antibodies

Andrea Balboni et al.

Summary: An outbreak of canine distemper virus (CDV) was reported among stone martens in Italy, where six subjects were monitored for 15 months in captivity. Two subjects died within this time frame, with only one showing clinical symptoms of CDV. The identified viruses belonged to the Wildlife-Europe CDV genetic subgroup, and neutralizing antibodies were detected in surviving subjects at the end of the eleven months.
