Variation in susceptibility of rapeseed cultivars to the peach potato aphid

Bozena Kordan et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential for antibiosis and antixenosis in different winter Brassica napus cultivars against Myzus persicae was investigated. Evidence for antixenosis was found in 'Alister', while evidence for antibiosis was found in 'Florida'. Different cultivars showed varying levels of susceptibility to aphid infestation, with 'Artoga' being highly susceptible and 'Alister' and 'Florida' showing the lowest reproduction rates and reproductive period duration. Chemical compounds in the leaves of all cultivars did not influence aphid performance.

Antagonist effects of the leek Allium porrum as a companion plant on aphid host plant colonization

Xavier Baudry et al.

Summary: The study found that using leek as a companion plant had a negative effect on aphid feeding behavior but did not affect aphid settlement. Additionally, leek as a companion plant triggered unexpected beneficial effects on certain life history traits of aphids, suggesting a possible hormetic effect of leek VOCs on aphid physiology.

Quercetin and Rutin as Modifiers of Aphid Probing Behavior

Katarzyna Stec et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of exogenous application of rutin and quercetin on the probing behavior of different aphid species, finding that the effects depended on aphid species, flavonol, and concentration. Quercetin promoted probing activities of A. pisum, while rutin delayed A. pisum reaching sieve elements.

Antixenosis in Glycine max (L.) Merr against Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris)

Katarzyna Stec et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the antixenosis potential of soybean cultivars against the pea aphid, revealing differences in aphid survival and probing behavior. Results showed that soybean plants have antixenosis mechanisms in peripheral tissues, making them relatively undesirable for pea aphids. Seven flavonoids were identified in different amounts and proportions in the cultivars, with kaempferol potentially playing a role in the strong antixenosis resistance observed in 'Aldana'. The research provides valuable data for future studies on plant-aphid interactions.
