Expression and functional analysis of cytochrome P450 genes in the integument of the oriental armyworm,Mythimna separata(Walker)

Yong Huang et al.

Summary: The transcriptome of integuments of Mythimna separata larvae was constructed, revealing the expression of genes including cytochrome P450s. Among them, CYP4G199 was specifically highly expressed in larval integuments, playing a crucial role in cuticle formation in Mythimna separata.

Structure-function analysis of PGRP-S1 from the oriental armyworm, Mythimna separata

Fang-Fang Liu et al.

Summary: PGRP-S1 is a protein with bacteriolytic activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mainly expressed in the midgut of larvae. Site-directed mutagenesis revealed that residues H62 and T175 retained bacteriolytic activity, while H61, Y97, H171, and C179 lost activity. Different residues of PGRP-S1 are involved in antibacterial and antifungal activities.

Identification and analysis of two lebocins in the oriental armyworm Mythimna separata

Fang-Fang Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified two cDNAs encoding lepidopteral lebocin preproproteins in the oriental armyworm, which can produce mature peptides with antibacterial and antifungal activities. These mature peptides showed agglutinating activity, inhibited bacterial growth, disrupted bacterial cell wall, and lysed fungal conidia and blastospores. The findings suggest that MseLeb1 and MseLeb2 play crucial roles in immune response against pathogens.

Meiqi Ma et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the immune transcriptomes of Adelphocoris suturalis in response to the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana and the Gram-negative bacteria Enterobactor cloacae, revealing different immune responses to the two pathogens. The research provides insights into the genetic level of the immune response and highlights the potential for developing novel strategies to control this pest.
