Compression Molding of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Foam Sheets with Beads Expanded by Supercritical CO2 Foaming

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: ETPU beads were prepared using a supercritical CO2 foaming process and compression molded into foam sheets. The cell structure of the foamed beads influenced the properties of the foam sheets. By controlling the pressure and temperature, the properties of the ETPU foam sheets, including foam resilience, hardness, tensile strength, and elongation, could be adjusted.

Antishrinking Strategy of Microcellular Thermoplastic Polyurethane by Comprehensive Modeling Analysis

Yichong Chen et al.

Summary: A comprehensive model for the shrinkage behavior of soft TPU elastomer foams has been established, incorporating in situ tensile testing and evaluation of different cell shapes. The study found that hexagonal cells match the actual shrinkage process well and that a high nitrogen content in cells can improve antishrinking ability. Additionally, a method of aging TPU foam under variable ambient vacuum to reduce shrinkage ratio was proposed and validated.

Biobased polyurethanes for biomedical applications

Sophie Wendels et al.

Summary: Polyurethanes (PUs) have a wide range of applications in the biomedical field, showing advanced properties such as controlled biotic and abiotic degradation. They possess precise tissue biomimicking structures and shape-recovery properties, making them suitable for cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. While substitution of fossil-based materials for biomedical implants is slowly improving, achieving higher renewable contents is still necessary for biobased certifications.
