Simultaneous removal of organic pollutants and heavy metals in wastewater by photoelectrocatalysis: A review

Shangshi Ye et al.

Summary: Photoelectrocatalysis, as a powerful technique combining photocatalysis with electrochemistry, has been extensively explored for simultaneous removal of organic pollutants and heavy metals in wastewater. The bias potential in the photoelectrocatalytic system can promote oxidation of organic pollutants on the photoanode and reduce heavy metals on the cathode, addressing mixed pollution issues effectively. Various research advances, operation variables, and challenges in utilizing solar energy for photoelectrocatalysis are discussed, with future industrial applications prospects proposed.

Impact of long-term storage of various redox-sensitive supported nanocomposites on their application in removal of dyes from wastewater: Mechanisms delineation through spectroscopic investigations

Nitin Khandelwal et al.

Summary: This study utilized redox-sensitive nanoscale zero-valent iron particles supported on bentonite and charcoal surfaces to mimic different porous and layered surfaces, demonstrating efficient removal of dyes in wastewater. Results showed that the different surface properties had an impact on the degradation mechanisms of dyes, with nZVI on charcoal surfaces degrading dyes mainly through organic degradation, while nZVI on layered surfaces removing dyes mainly through reduction.
