Recent developments in antimicrobial and antifouling coatings to reduce or prevent contamination and cross-contamination of food contact surfaces by bacteria

William DeFlorio et al.

Summary: In response to the significant annual loss of human quality of life and economic impact caused by illness from bacterially contaminated foodstuffs, research investment has been made in developing new materials to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Various emerging antimicrobial and antifouling technologies have been identified, but further research investment is likely needed for wide-scale implementation.
