Development of advanced phospholipid vesicles loaded with Lippia citriodora pressurized liquid extract for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders

Francisco-Javier Leyva-Jimenez et al.

Summary: Pressurized liquid extraction was used to obtain a phytocomplex from Lippia citriodora leaves rich in bioactive compounds, which was then encapsulated in phospholipid vesicles to enhance its protective effect against oxidative stress in the intestine. The phytochemicals were identified and quantified, and the extract was incorporated in small and stable PEVs modified with glucidex. The formulations were cytocompatible and demonstrated the ability to protect Caco-2 cells against oxidative stress, making them suitable for use in functional foods.

Clinical therapies and nano drug delivery systems for urinary bladder cancer

Pooja Jain et al.

Summary: Bladder cancer is the 10th most common malignancy worldwide with a 5-year survival rate of 75%, but 70% of the cases develop chemoresistance and progress to the muscle invasive stage. Nanotechnology has shown promise in targeted drug delivery to bladder cancer cells, offering potential for better treatment management.

Enhanced skin retention and permeation of a novel peptide via structural modification, chemical enhancement, and microneedles

Jungen Chen et al.

Summary: A novel peptide called Decapeptide-12 was modified by adding a palmitate chain to enhance its transcutaneous penetration, and the modified palm-peptide showed improved skin retention due to increased lipophilicity. The combinatory approach of molecular modification, chemical penetration enhancers, and microneedle patch proved to be effective in enhancing skin permeation of the peptides, potentially offering a promising solution for treating hyperpigmentation without the adverse effects associated with traditional treatments like hydroquinone.
