Preparation of cetyl palmitate-based PEGylated solid lipid nanoparticles by microfluidic technique

Ilaria Arduino et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown the advantages of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) over other nanosystems as a drug delivery system, but industrial scale-up from preclinical formulations remains limited. Microfluidic techniques provide a reproducible method for producing nanoparticles and offer the feasibility of industrial scale-up.

Sphingomyelin-based liposomes with different cholesterol contents and polydopamine coating as a controlled delivery system

Eun-Bi Lim et al.

Summary: Sphingomyelin-based liposomes exhibited different loading and release behaviors of encapsulated drugs depending on cholesterol contents and polydopamine coating layer. The loading of hydrophobic ibuprofen increased with higher cholesterol contents, while the loading of hydrophilic acetaminophen decreased. The release rates of the drugs were affected by the cholesterol content and PDA coating, demonstrating potential for lipid-based nanocarriers in preclinical development.

Insights into kinetics, release, and behavioral effects of brain-targeted hybrid nanoparticles for cholesterol delivery in Huntington's disease

Giulia Birolini et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential benefits of using hybrid-g7-NPs-chol for delivering cholesterol to the brain in Huntington's disease (HD) treatment. The nanoparticles can efficiently target neural cells and release cholesterol in a controlled manner within the brain, leading to improved cognitive function and motor defects in HD animals without inflammatory reactions. The findings suggest that this novel approach could be a promising strategy for treating HD by enhancing endogenous cholesterol biosynthesis.

Microfluidic platform for synthesis and optimization of chitosan-coated magnetic nanoparticles in cisplatin delivery

Saeed Siavashy et al.

Summary: The magnetic core/chitosan shell nanoparticles containing cisplatin were successfully synthesized using microfluidic technology, resulting in monodisperse particles with optimal size and morphology. These nanoparticles showed higher encapsulation efficiency, controlled release, and lower IC50 values when exposed to cancer cells, indicating their potential for more efficient drug delivery. The developed microfluidic platform provides valuable features for the clinical translation of nanoparticles in drug delivery.

Microfluidics nanoprecipitation of telmisartan nanoparticles: effect of process and formulation parameters

Preena Shrimal et al.

Summary: The study focused on utilizing a continuous microfluidic nanoprecipitation process to prepare nanosized particles of telmisartan, a poorly water-soluble drug, and enhancing its solubility and bioavailability. Various polymers were investigated to control the surface forces between the particles, with Poloxamer 407 identified as the most effective polymer in minimizing drug agglomeration and producing nanoparticles with the smallest particle size and polydispersity index.
