Motile cilia genetics and cell biology: big results from little mice

Lance Lee et al.

Summary: Over the past two decades, our understanding of motile cilia and their role in disease has greatly increased, with critical information and insight coming from the analysis of mouse models. Mouse models have made significant contributions to genetic and cell biological studies of motile cilia, and have been at the forefront of research on mammalian motile cilia and PCD pathogenesis.

WDR34, a candidate gene for non-syndromic rod-cone dystrophy

Maria Solaguren-Beascoa et al.

Summary: Rod-cone dystrophy, characterized by rod and cone photoreceptor degeneration, is associated with mutations in over 65 genes. A homozygous variant in WDR34 was identified through homozygosity mapping and whole-exome sequencing in a case of autosomal recessive non-syndromic RCD, marking the first report of such association with WDR34 mutation.
