Recent incidence trend of elderly patients with glioblastoma in the United States, 2000-2017

Boran Chen et al.

Summary: The overall incidence of glioblastoma in the elderly population remained stable between 2000 and 2017. There was a non-significant increasing tendency for all elderly patients, while specific subgroups showed significantly increasing or decreasing trends in incidence rates. Age had an impact on the incidence trends, but period and cohort effects were not evident. Future research on specific molecular subgroups is needed to further understand the etiology of glioblastoma.

Human Cerebrospinal Fluid Modulates Pathways Promoting Glioblastoma Malignancy

Anna Carrano et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) contact enhances tumor growth and invasion of glioblastoma (GBM) by activating complex gene expression patterns characteristic of a malignant phenotype. CSF exposure increases the viability, proliferation rate, self-renewing capacity, and migratory capabilities of GBM cells, with potential diagnostic and therapeutic implications.

Brd4-bound enhancers drive cell-intrinsic sex differences in glioblastoma

Najla Kfoury et al.

Summary: Sex plays a crucial role in cancer phenotype, with male and female GBM cells showing distinct responses to Brd4 inhibition. Analysis of human GBM samples revealed that male cells are more sensitive to BET inhibitors, suggesting sex-specific therapeutic implications in cancer treatment.

Analysis of intraoperative human brain tissue transcriptome reveals putative risk genes and altered molecular pathways in glioma-related seizures

Anteneh M. Feyissa et al.

Summary: In this study, altered processes such as cell-to-cell signaling, inflammation-related, and glutamatergic neurotransmission were identified in the pathogenesis of GRS. DEGs specific to GRS included overexpression of genes involved in cell-to-cell and glutamatergic signaling, and down-regulation of genes involved in immune-trafficking. Target genes identified offer new landscape for further study in the fields of brain tumors and seizures.
