Immunocompatibility and non-thrombogenicity of gelatin-based hydrogels

A. Krueger-Genge et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that gelatin-based hydrogels have good immunocompatibility and non-thrombogenicity, making them suitable for coating the blood-contacting surface of cardiovascular implants. Through in vitro and animal experiments, it was found that the hydrogels did not activate complement or induce reactive oxygen species in human blood, and showed compatibility with vessel functionality in tests. Further implantation tests in mice showed no adverse effects in spleen, liver, or kidney, indicating the potential of these materials for biomedical applications.

Spider silk nerve graft promotes axonal regeneration on long distance nerve defect in a sheep model

T. Kornfeld et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of spider silk materials on axonal regeneration in peripheral nerve defects. The results showed that the spider silk nerve implant supported axonal regeneration comparable to autologous nerve grafts, indicating that spider silk nerve conduits could be an important approach for long nerve defects.
