Modulating the Heat Stress Response to Improve Hyperthermia-Based Anticancer Treatments

Enzo M. Scutigliani et al.

Summary: Hyperthermia is a method of exposing tumors to elevated temperatures to enhance the effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, its efficacy is limited by factors such as heat stress response. Targeting this cellular defense mechanism may improve the effectiveness of hyperthermia-based therapies.

Modulated Electro-Hyperthermia Induces a Prominent Local Stress Response and Growth Inhibition in Mouse Breast Cancer Isografts

Csaba Andras Schvarcz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic effects of mEHT on TNBC, finding that it can induce thermal and nonthermal anti-tumor effects by modulating the bioelectric properties of tumors. By upregulating stress-related proteins and other protective mechanisms, mEHT effectively inhibited tumor growth and proliferation, but also triggered a complex stress response. Inhibiting this stress response has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of mEHT and other cancer treatments.

Hydralazine augmented ultrasound hyperthermia for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma

Mrigendra B. Karmacharya et al.

Summary: Hydralazine significantly enhances ultrasound hyperthermia by disrupting tumor blood flow in HCC, leading to reductions in peak enhancement, perfusion index, and area under the curve of the CEUS time-intensity curves. Ultrasound treatment with hydralazine delivers a higher cumulative thermal dose and induces larger hemorrhagic pools and increased tumor vessel dilation, enhancing hyperthermic effects in murine HCC tumors.
