Charlson comorbidity index is predictive of postoperative clinical outcome after single-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery

Kensuke Shinonara et al.

Summary: The study found a weak negative relationship between CCI score and JOA improvement rate, with patients with two or more comorbidities showing a significantly higher recovery rate compared to those without comorbidities. However, CCI score did not influence length of stay (LOS) and increased direct costs. Surgeons should consider a patient's comorbidities when planning a surgical intervention to achieve a good clinical outcome.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of timing of surgery on the outcome of geriatric patients with periprosthetic femoral fractures. Early surgical treatment did not reduce mortality rates in the short or mid-term, but delayed surgery increased the odds of reoperation.
