Predictions of diabetes complications and mortality using hba1c variability: a 10-year observational cohort study

Sharen Lee et al.

Summary: High HbA1c variability is associated with increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, as well as diabetic complications. Both low mean HbA1c subgroup and high HbA1c subgroup showed significantly different time-to-death outcomes.

Serum electrolyte/metabolite abnormalities among patients with acute myocardial infarction: comparison between patients with and without diabetes mellitus

Arthur Shiyovich et al.

Summary: Among patients admitted with acute myocardial infarction, those with diabetes mellitus are at a higher risk for electrolyte/metabolite disturbances compared to non-diabetic patients. These abnormalities are associated with an increased risk for in-hospital mortality, which is similar between patients with and without diabetes except for specific differences in uric acid levels, hyperglycemia, and potassium levels.

Glycemic and lipid variability for predicting complications and mortality in diabetes mellitus using machine learning

Sharen Lee et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the predictive value of variability in HbA1c and lipids for adverse outcomes in diabetes. Higher variability in these parameters was associated with increased risks of complications and mortality. Inflammation may play a role in mediating adverse outcomes, warranting further exploration in future studies.

Is HbA1c an ideal biomarker of well-controlled diabetes?

Georgia Kaiafa et al.

Summary: HbA1c plays a central role in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with diabetes, but is not perfect. Common comorbidities and specific drug intake may compromise its sensitivity and specificity. The COVID-19 pandemic presents a pressing challenge for diabetic patients in maintaining optimal blood glucose control.
