Gender differences in incidence and in-hospital outcomes of community-acquired, ventilator-associated and nonventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia in Spain

Ana Lopez-de-Andres et al.

Summary: The study compared the incidence and in-hospital outcomes of different types of pneumonia according to gender, finding that males had higher incidence rates but female gender was a risk factor for higher in-hospital mortality rate after VAP. Older age and comorbidities were associated with in-hospital mortality in the three types of pneumonia analyzed.

Nonventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia: A call to action Recommendations from the National Organization to Prevent Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (NOHAP) among nonventilated patients

Shannon C. Munro et al.

Summary: The document outlines the research needs to support the call to action against non-ventilator-associated hospital-acquired pneumonia (NVHAP) in the United States. Primary needs include estimating the economic cost of NVHAP, elucidating the pathophysiology, developing surveillance methods, testing prevention strategies, and identifying policy levers. A joint task force including various stakeholders developed this document.

Population-based incidence and mortality of community-acquired pneumonia in Germany

Christian Theilacker et al.

Summary: The study found that the incidence rates of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in adults in Germany were relatively high in 2015, especially in individuals aged 60 and above, with higher rates of severe cases. Adults with underlying risk conditions had significantly higher incidence and mortality rates of CAP compared to those without underlying risk conditions.
