Association between prenatal exposure to ambient particulate matter and risk of hypospadias in offspring: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Hua-Chuan Lin et al.

Summary: This study found a modest association between prenatal exposure to PM2.5 and the risk of hypospadias, particularly within 1 month before pregnancy or the first trimester. There was no significant association observed between exposure to PM2.5-10 and PM10 during pregnancy and the risk of hypospadias in offspring.

Pronounced Diurnal Pattern of Salivary C-Reactive Protein (CRP) With Modest Associations to Circulating CRP Levels

Jonas Wettero et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the associations between salivary CRP, total protein levels in saliva, and serum CRP, as well as their relationships with plasma IL-6, BMI, smoking habits, and age. The findings suggest that CRP in saliva does not straightforwardly reflect serum concentrations and emphasizes the importance of standardizing the time-point of sampling.

C-Reactive Protein to Albumin Ratio in Patients With Saphenous Vein Graft Disease

Cagri Yayla et al.

Summary: This study found a relationship between the C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) and saphenous vein graft disease (SVGD), with higher CAR associated with increased risk of SVGD. In multivariate analysis, lymphocyte count, CAR, and SYNTAX score were identified as independent predictors of SVGD. C-reactive protein to albumin ratio may serve as a useful marker for predicting SVGD after bypass surgery.

C-reactive protein in spinal surgery: more predictive than prehistoric

S. Hoeller et al.

Summary: Our retrospective cohort study found that postoperative CRP kinetics have a high value in detecting SSI after dorsal spondylodesis. A second peak in CRP levels after the initial maximum, failure to decline, and maximum CRP over 225 mg/l were predictive factors for infectious complications, with high sensitivity and specificity. A one-phase decay exponential regression model could predict 75.6% of the variance after the initial CRP peak. This suggests that monitoring CRP kinetics can facilitate early detection of SSI in clinical practice.

C-Reactive Protein Levels in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Are Modulated by the Interferon Gene Signature and CRP Gene Polymorphism rs1205

Helena Enocsson et al.

Summary: In patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) during a quiescent phase, IL-6 levels, CRP genotype (rs1205), and type I interferon (IFN) gene signature have an impact on basal CRP levels, with IL-6 positively associated and IGS positivity and CRP genotype (rs1205) AA/GA negatively associated with CRP levels.

Therapeutic Lowering of C-Reactive Protein

Rachel V. Jimenez et al.

Summary: CRP levels are typically low in healthy individuals, but can rise rapidly in response to tissue damage and inflammation. It is commonly believed that CRP's biological actions are only evident when blood levels are elevated, however studies have shown that even at baseline levels CRP exerts important biological effects.

Comparative analysis of perioperative prophylactic antibiotics in prevention of surgical site infections in stented, distal hypospadias repair

Stephen J. Canon et al.

Summary: A retrospective study was conducted on patients undergoing distal penile hypospadias repair over a 6-year period, showing that the use of prophylactic antibiotics did not reduce the rate of surgical site infections in this setting.

Development of a primary reference material of natural C-reactive protein: verification of its natural pentameric structure and certification by two isotope dilution mass spectrometry

Jianyi Liu et al.

Summary: The development of a certified reference material (CRM) for natural CRP, named GBW09228, was reported, with certification results traceable to SI units. This CRM can be used to calibrate and verify the accuracy of CRP measurements, providing a foundation for establishing a complete traceability chain for CRP.
