The relationship of aerobic and motor fitness with executive functions in preadolescents

Vladimir J. Milosevic et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that aerobic fitness and motor fitness are related to specific executive functions (EF). However, the relationships between these fitness factors and executive functions may depend on each other. The results of this study suggest that motor fitness is positively related to inhibition, while aerobic fitness is positively related to shifting. Interestingly, aerobic fitness only showed a positive relationship with shifting when motor fitness was also high, indicating the potential relevance of both motor and aerobic fitness for executive functions.
