Estimation of the epidemiology of dementia and associated neuropsychiatric symptoms by applying machine learning to real-world data

Javier Mar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the population incidence and prevalence of dementia and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS). The results showed that depressive and psychotic symptoms were common in the elderly population, with depressive symptoms being associated with dementia diagnosis time, living in a nursing home, and female gender, while psychotic symptoms were associated with male gender and older age.

Modeling Large Sparse Data for Feature Selection: Hospital Admission Predictions of the Dementia Patients Using Primary Care Electronic Health Records

G. A. V. I. N. TSANG et al.

Summary: The proposed ECNN methodology provides high predictive performance and interpretability in hospitalization prediction for patients with dementia by identifying important features within a large feature domain space, leading to a significant reduction in feature size compared to traditional techniques. This suggests potential for further clinical study of medical events and adaptation of ECNN for novel risk factor identification in other medical big data domains.
