Composition-dependent multivalency of peptide-peptide interactions revealed by tryptophan-scanning mutagenesis

Lanlan Yu et al.

Summary: This study examined the composition dependence of peptide-peptide interactions between an oligopeptide octa-glycine and a series of tryptophan-containing octapeptides. The binding energy showed stepwise characteristics as the number of tryptophan increased, but weak fluctuations were observed with higher numbers of tryptophan. These nonlinear composition-dependent binding energy characteristics could be attributed to combinatorial contributions from hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interactions between the peptides.

Cationic Side Chain Identity Directs the Hydrophobically Driven Self-Assembly of Amphiphilic β-Peptides in Aqueous Solution

Summary: This study investigates the influence of amino acid substitution on hydrophobic interactions using globally amphiphilic beta-peptides. The results demonstrate that different amino acid substitutions can significantly affect the assembly morphology and strength of peptides in water solutions.
