Automated Close-Loop System for Three-Dimensional Characterization of Spatiotemporal Optical Vortex

Jian Chen et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in spatiotemporal optical pulses have led to the development of an automated close-loop characterization system for accurately reconstructing the three-dimensional intensity and phase structures of spatial-temporal wavepackets, particularly optical vortices. This system utilizes interferometry with a short probe pulse and a close-loop control program for automation of data collection and reconstruction processes, showing efficient quantitative characterization of generated spatiotemporal optical vortices. The linear characterization system has the potential for measuring various types of spatiotemporal wavepackets and can be applied broadly in spatiotemporal wavepacket studies.

Spatiotemporal Vortex Pulses: Angular Momenta and Spin-Orbit Interaction

Konstantin Y. Bliokh

Summary: Experimental generation of spatiotemporal optical vortex pulses with purely transverse intrinsic orbital angular momentum has prompted an accurate theoretical analysis, including scalar and vector spatiotemporal Bessel-type solutions and descriptions of their properties. The study calculated local densities and integral values of spin and orbital angular momenta, predicting observable spin-orbit interaction phenomena. The analysis can be extended to other types of spatiotemporal vortex pulses, such as acoustic ones.
