Ability of a Set of Trunk Inertial Indexes of Gait to Identify Gait Instability and Recurrent Fallers in Parkinson's Disease

Stefano Filippo Castiglia et al.

Summary: This study found that the antero-posterior harmonic ratios (HR) and percent determinism (RQAdet) can serve as independent markers for assessing gait instability in persons with Parkinson's disease, regardless of age and gait speed. HR accurately discriminated between patients at different Hoehn and Yahr (HY) stages and healthy subjects, while RQAdet predicted gait instability and showed correlation with stride duration and cadence.

Guidelines on exercise testing and prescription for patients at different stages of Parkinson's disease

Camilla Martignon et al.

Summary: Exercise is highly recommended for patients with Parkinson's disease, with known benefits for both motor and non-motor symptoms. This study reviewed the literature on exercise-based approaches to managing symptoms at each stage of the disease and evaluated testing, training programs, and the effects of exercise on medication. Despite a lack of standardized parameters, tailored exercise testing and prescription guidelines were provided for each stage of PD.
