Antibody-Dependent Enhancement of Bacterial Disease: Prevalence, Mechanisms, and Treatment

Von Vergel L. Torres et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that antibodies can exacerbate bacterial diseases, with mechanisms different from viral ADE attracting attention. Antibody-mediated enhancement of bacterial infection has been observed in mouse models and human patients. Analysis of specific case studies shows that plasmapheresis has been used successfully to ameliorate symptoms associated with bacterial ADE.
