A meta-analytical approach to understanding the charcoal source area problem

Richard S. Vachula

Summary: The study addresses the source area problem in the sedimentary charcoal proxy through a meta-analytical approach, modeling the relationship between charcoal size and dispersal distance to estimate the functional charcoal source area (FCSA) as 50 km. This enables spatially explicit paleofire reconstructions and climate model comparisons, but further research is needed to characterize parameters affecting charcoal dispersal and understand the limitations of fire history in delineating charcoal source area.

Organic Carbon transport model of abandoned river channels - A motif for floodplain geomorphology influencing biogeochemical swaying of arsenic

Devanita Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the control of arsenic fluxes by meandering-river geomorphology in the Suhiya oxbow-lake area of the Middle Ganga River, using a multidisciplinary approach to explore vegetation dynamics, sedimentation rate, organic carbon infiltration, elemental analysis, and microbial diversity. The results reveal the crucial roles of organic carbon transport and microbial diagenesis in the mobilization of arsenic and other geogenic elements.
