Mapping of inhomogeneous quasi-3D electrostatic field in electro-optic materials

Vaclav Dedic et al.

Summary: This paper describes a new method for direct measurement and evaluation of the inhomogeneous electrostatic vector field with translational symmetry in electro-optic materials exhibiting the Pockels effect. The method can be applied to CdTe-related compounds and other materials showing 43m symmetry, probing space charge and electric field while providing data on the distribution of the internal electric field in the material.

Impact of selenium addition to the cadmium-zinc-telluride matrix for producing high energy resolution X-and gamma-ray detectors

Utpal N. Roy et al.

Summary: The material quality and performance of CdZnTe radiation detectors have been steadily improving, with the addition of 2% Se found to successfully mitigate many performance-limiting defects. A record-high performance VFG detector fabricated from Cd0.9Zn0.1Te0.98Se0.02 ingot showed superb energy resolution, revealing the potential for further improvement in energy resolution after purification of the starting material.

Growth of Cd0.9Zn0.1Te1-ySey Single Crystals for Room-Temperature Gamma Ray Detection

Joshua W. Kleppinger et al.

Summary: Novel room-temperature nuclear radiation detector semiconductor material Quaternary Cd0.9Zn0.1Te1-ySey (CZTS) single crystals were successfully grown using modified vertical Bridgman method and traveling heater method. The addition of selenium in the Cd0.9Zn0.1Te (CZT) matrix improved the resolution performance of the detectors by reducing the formation of Te-Cd and Te-Zn antisites, confirmed by ab-initio calculations. The grown crystals were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, showing high purity and targeted stoichiometry.

Effects of oxygen plasma treatment on Cd1-xZnxTe material and devices

A. Brovko et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that plasma treatment has significant effects on the performance and characteristics of Cd1-xZnxTe radiation detectors, especially in terms of dark current reduction. Plasma oxidation increases the oxide fraction on the surface, lowering the device's dark current, and may cause variations in device characteristics over long periods. The effects of plasma treatment penetrate deep into the bulk of the detector and can be observed through various characterization techniques.

Charge Transport and Space-Charge Formation in Cd1-xZnxTe1-ySey Radiation Detectors

J. Pipek et al.

Summary: The electron- and hole-transport properties in CZTS crystals were studied using laser-induced transient-current technique and numerical simulations. Good quality detectors were observed under pulsed bias, with characteristics such as positive space charge formation and significant position dependence of electron and hole lifetime under dc bias. The experiment was successfully fitted with a simple model dominated by a deep recombination level.
