Hyperbolic Cooper-Pair Polaritons in Planar Graphene/Cuprate Plasmonic Cavities

Michael E. Berkowitz et al.

Summary: The study reveals that weak HCP features in the near-field can be significantly enhanced by coupling graphene SPP and HCP in layered graphene/hBN/Bi-2212 heterostructures. This enhancement arises from the multilayered structures acting as plasmonic cavities, altering collective modes of the layered superconductor.

Summary: The Higgs mode of a superconductor, difficult to observe by far-field optics, can be clearly visible using near-field optics and ultraconfined graphene plasmons. The coupling to the Higgs mode is clearly visible in both cases of graphene plasmons and quantum emitters, offering experimental knobs for studying the electrodynamics of superconductors.

Complex plasmon-exciton dynamics revealed through quantum dot light emission in a nanocavity

Satyendra Nath Gupta et al.

Summary: Plasmonic cavities can confine electromagnetic radiation to deep sub-wavelength regimes, allowing for strong coupling phenomena with individual quantum emitters. By studying scattering spectra and using interferometry, researchers observed Rabi splitting and non-classical emission in devices with semiconductor quantum dots, revealing complex interactions between bright and dark states. Model simulations based on an extended Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian explained the experimental findings, highlighting the potential of controlling quantum state dynamics through the coupling of quantum emitters to plasmonic cavities.

Optical response of noble metal nanostructures: quantum surface effects in crystallographic facets

A. Rodriguez Echarri et al.

Summary: Noble metal nanostructures exhibit nonlocal effects due to quantum confinement and spatial dispersion, particularly in crystalline forms with distinct electronic surface states. Feibelman d-parameters are used to capture these effects, allowing for straightforward characterization of optical responses and application to various nanoscale metal morphologies. This method may provide a more affordable alternative to first-principles atomistic calculations for describing quantum nonlocal effects in mesoscopic crystalline metal surfaces in nano-optics experiments.

Electron dynamics in plasmons

Hue Thi Bich Do et al.

Summary: The Particle-in-Cell (PIC) method provides a mechanical, single-particle picture of plasmon resonances by tracking the movement of individual conduction electrons. Application to gold nanorods demonstrates the usefulness of PIC in extracting time-domain information of plasmons. Analysis of time-resolved velocity distribution shows how PIC can separately analyze Landau damping and Drude damping, as well as their decay times, while electron-electron and surface scattering increase the overall kinetic energy of electrons and decrease their coherence.
