Revisiting tantalum based nanostructures for efficient harvesting of solar radiation in STPV systems

Ahsan Sarwar Rana et al.

Summary: The Shockley-Queisser limit restricts the efficiency of conventional semiconductor photovoltaic devices, but a solar thermophotovoltaic system can surpass this limit by carefully designing the absorber and emitter. The use of Tantalum nanostructures in the absorber and emitter leads to high performance surpassing previous reports, with the emitter showing improved efficiency for specific PV cells.

Scalable-manufactured metal-insulator-metal based selective solar absorbers with excellent high-temperature insensitivity

Yanpei Tian et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates a new spectrally selective solar absorber with a multilayered stack made of silica/alumina/tungsten/alumina/tungsten based on metal-insulator-metal resonance structures, which shows high absorptance, low emittance, and high solar-to-heat efficiency. The absorber is angular insensitive and polarization-independent, providing a novel alternative for improving the energy conversion efficiency of solar thermal engineering.

Optical quantum yield in plasmonic nanowaveguide

Mahi R. Singh et al.

Summary: A theory of quantum yield for plasmonic nanowaveguides with quantum dot cladding and metallic nanoparticle core has been developed, calculating the bound states and interactions within the waveguide. The quantum yield decreases with increased dipole-dipole interactions between metallic nanoparticles and affects photoluminescence enhancement and quenching due to interactions with surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). Experimental validation of the theory was successful and can be used for future nanosensor and nanoswitch designs.

Scalable and hierarchically designed polymer film as a selective thermal emitter for high-performance all-day radiative cooling

Duo Li et al.

Summary: Traditional cooling systems consume a lot of energy and worsen the greenhouse effect. On the other hand, passive radiative cooling, which dissipates heat through an atmospheric transparency window to outer space without using any energy, has gained attention for its potential in reducing energy consumption and its impact on the environment.

Enhancement of Radiative and Nonradiative Emission in Random Lasing Plasmonic Nanofibers

Mahi R. Singh et al.

Summary: A theory of light-matter interaction in plasmonic nanofibers is developed, studying the effects of SPPs and DDI on the energy of photonic bound states. The strength of SPP and DDI couplings can control the number of bound states, while the decay rate of quantum emitters is enhanced under resonance conditions. The study also predicts increased spontaneous decay rate with resonances between exciton and SPP energies, and the quenching of photoluminescence intensity with higher concentrations of metallic nanoparticles.

Combination of imine bond and samarium emitter enables turn-off fluorescence detection of hydrazine in vapor and water samples

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study presents a convenient and efficient fluorescence technique for selective detection and precise determination of biotoxic N2H4. A luminescent probe based on Sm(III) macrocycles is synthesized to achieve selective and ratiometric turn-off fluorescence sensing for N2H4, showing low detection limit and wide linear sensing range. The proposed smartphone-based analytical method provides satisfactory N2H4 detection results, shedding light on the development of optical probes and detection techniques for N2H4 and other hazardous chemicals.
