Tension-compression asymmetry of the superelastic behavior of high-strength [001]-oriented FeNiCoAlNb crystals

Yu. I. Chumlyakov et al.

Summary: In this study, the temperature dependence of stress-induced gamma-alpha' martensitic transformations (MT) and superelasticity (SE) in FeNiCoAlNb crystals was investigated through tension and compression tests. It was found that the value of α = dσ(cr)/dT is independent of the stress state during the gamma-alpha' MT process, while the maximum SE strain of 11.5% was observed in compression.

Rubber-like behaviour and superelasticity of [001]-oriented FeNiCoAlNb single crystals containing γ′- and β-phase particles

Yu Chumlyakov et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that one-step ageing leads to the formation of gamma'-phase particles in FeNiCoAlNb single crystals, while two-step ageing results in a structure containing both gamma'- and beta-phase particles. Different ageing methods affect the M-s temperature and reversible deformation, thus influencing the mechanical properties of the material.
