The adverse metabolic effects of branched-chain amino acids are mediated by isoleucine and valine

Deyang Yu et al.

Summary: The study found that different branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) have distinct metabolic effects, with low isoleucine diet improving hepatic insulin sensitivity and energy expenditure. It is suggested that reducing isoleucine may be a new approach to treating and preventing obesity and diabetes.

PPARγ-induced upregulation of subcutaneous fat adiponectin secretion, glyceroneogenesis and BCAA oxidation requires mTORC1 activity

Maynara L. Andrade et al.

Summary: mTORC1 and PPAR gamma are essential partners regulating adiponectin production and BCAA metabolism in subcutaneous adipose tissue. Adipocyte mTORC1 deficiency impairs PPAR gamma transcriptional activity and blocks the effects of rosiglitazone, highlighting the importance of their interaction.

Effects of ketoisocaproic acid and inflammation on glucose transport in muscle cells

Summary: The study found that defects in branched-chain amino acid metabolism are associated with insulin resistance in myotubes, especially in the presence of KIC. Increasing BCAA catabolism may help promote muscle glucose utilization, improve insulin resistance, and its related consequences.
