Brain aging in major depressive disorder: results from the ENIGMA major depressive disorder working group

Laura K. M. Han et al.

Summary: Major depressive disorder is associated with increased risk of brain atrophy, aging-related diseases, and mortality. This study found that MDD patients showed a higher brain-predicted age difference compared to controls, but this difference did not seem to be driven by specific clinical characteristics. Subtle patterns of age-related structural brain abnormalities in MDD were observed, highlighting the need for further longitudinal studies to assess the clinical value of these findings.

Predicting brain age with complex networks: From adolescence to adulthood

Loredana Bellantuono et al.

Summary: Recent studies show that machine learning and deep learning can accurately predict brain age. The proposed method based on complex networks is accurate, robust, and computationally efficient, achieving a high correlation and low error in age prediction. The network model provides new insights on aging patterns in the brain and specific anatomical changes.

Brain Age Prediction With Morphological Features Using Deep Neural Networks: Results From Predictive Analytic Competition 2019

Angela Lombardi et al.

Summary: Morphological changes in the brain over the lifespan have been successfully characterized using structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms. A predictive model based on deep neural networks (DNN) showed the best performance in brain age prediction, outperforming other ML strategies with a MAE of 4.6 on hold-out test data.

Post-hoc explanation of black-box classifiers using confident itemsets

Milad Moradi et al.

Summary: Black-box AI methods like deep neural networks are widely used for building predictive models, but their decisions are hard to trust due to hidden inner workings. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) systems aim to clarify this black-box process, with post-hoc XAI methods being commonly used for explanations.
